Built to Breathe — Water Rolls Off, Moisture Escapes

Condensation Control: Airflow lets trapped humidity escape, cutting down on mildew that can form under fully airtight covers.

Moisture Balance: While the wax treatment sheds rain, the canvas still allows covered items to dry, helping protect cargo like lumber, produce, or machinery from rust or rot.

Temperature Moderation: A breathable cover reduces heat buildup, keeping stored items or covered work areas closer to ambient temperature.

Outdoor Protection Since the Covered Wagon Days

Humphrys began in 1874 sewing heavy cotton canvas covers for Conestoga wagons—the freight haulers of the day. These covers were tough then, and they are even tougher now. Each tarp starts with premium 12 oz. cotton duck that is then given a 6 oz. wax treatment for lasting water resistance. The reliable construction that served 19th‑century wagon drivers still defines every cotton canvas tarp we make today.

Check out this advertisement we ran back in the early 70s —it’s a reminder that quality never goes out of style.

American History in Every Stitch

For 150 years, we have turned heavy cotton duck into covers built to work. Every tarp is still wax‑treated, cut, sewn, grommeted, and packed by hand in Indiana. From truck beds to farm loads, you get a U.S.‑made canvas that is ready for the long haul.

Hem Options for Made-To-Order Tarps

Flat Hem: This is the standard hem that comes with this product. It consists of double-folded edges with grommets installed at either 2' (standard) or 1' intervals. The 3-ply hem is then chain-stitched on either side.

Grommets with Patches: Similarly to the Flat Hem, this hem is double folded with grommets installed ever 1 or 2 feet. Unlike that option, though, this hem also includes patches of reinforced fabric underneath each grommet to provide extra strength.
canvas tarp with d-ringsD-Rings with Reinforced Patches: Ideal for securing large loads, this configuration uses seatbelt webbing and steel-plated zinc D-rings plus four-layer polyester patches. The 1-1/8-inch D-rings accommodate standard webbing and handle heavier weights. Made in America, they remain reliable in harsh conditions.

Wax Treatment

Will initially leave a slight rub-off or odor. Best suited for outdoor use.

Brass Grommets

Corrosion resistant 1/2" I.D., spaced every 2" on all four edges.

18 oz. Post-Treatment

After it’s treated, the 12 oz. cotton duck becomes heavier—18 ounces per square yard.

Polyester Thread

Treated to resist rot and UV, seams and hems will not be failure-points.

Full Finished Size ±3%

Accounts for minor size variation due to fabric shrinkage, sewing, and treatment.

Anti-Static Cotton Canvas

Safer for use in settings where static discharge could cause damage or risk.
