What is a leak diverter tarp?
A leak diverter tarp, also called a leak catcher or drain tarp, is a tarp hung below an active leak to catch water and channel it away from floors, equipment, and inventory. Ours pitches toward a centered 3/4-inch hose connection, so captured water drains to a floor drain or bucket instead of pooling overhead. It is a reusable alternative to buckets and absorbent socks while a leak is repaired.
How does the center drain and hose connection work?
The diverter is sewn square and pitched toward the middle, where a 3/4-inch spout accepts a standard hose. Water collected by the tarp runs to that drain fitting and flows through the hose to a drain, barrel, or bucket positioned out of the way. Because water never pools on the fabric, the leak catcher can run unattended while you keep operating.
Can a leak diverter catch ceiling and pipe leaks, or only roof leaks?
Both. It is most often used as a roof leak diverter during storm leaks, but the leak catcher also works above drop ceilings as a ceiling leak diverter and under failing pipes, valves, or HVAC condensation lines as a drip diverter. Anywhere water enters from above, it can be hung from its grommets to catch and drain the leak.
What size leak diverter do I need?
Choose a size larger than the leak area so the tarp can pitch toward the center drain. For a single drip, a small leak diverter such as 3' x 3' or 5' x 5' is usually enough, while a wider section of compromised roof may call for 10' x 10' or larger. We stock ten sizes from 3' x 3' up to 20' x 20'.
