Roof Leak Diverter and Leak Catcher Tarps

Our leak diverter tarp catches overhead water and channels it away before it reaches floors, inventory, or equipment. Each leak catcher hangs below the leak and slopes toward a centered 3/4-inch hose connection, so captured water drains through a standard hose to a floor drain or bucket instead of pooling on the fabric. Built from flame-resistant 10 mil polyethylene, this drain tarp is lightweight, reusable, and ready for repeated emergency use. Reinforced corner grommets let crews hang it fast from ceilings, joists, or structural supports.

Where Leak Diverters Are Used

A leak diverter works anywhere water enters from above. Facility and maintenance teams use them as roof leak catchers during storms and reroofing, as ceiling leak diverters above drop ceilings and finished spaces, and as drip diverters under failing pipes, valves, and HVAC condensation lines. Common settings include warehouses, manufacturing floors, data centers, retail spaces, and any building where an active leak threatens stock or operations. For storm response and installation guidance, see our guide on handling storm leaks with leak diverters.

How the Center Drain Works

The diverter is sewn square for maximum catch area and pitched toward the middle, where a 3/4-inch spout accepts a standard hose. That lets you route water to a drain, barrel, or bucket and keep working while the leak is repaired. When the leak is fixed, the tarp folds flat for storage and is ready to redeploy.

150 Years of Value

Since 1874, Humphrys has built a reputation for durable, dependable products at fair prices. That mix of quality and value has kept us going, even as much of the Philadelphia textile industry moved on. From Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets in the 1800s, to drop cloths in the 1950s (advertised with our then-new fighting duck logo), to today’s poly leak diverters and other textile products, our customers have known us to make practical solutions that last.

American Made Means No Shortcuts

In a global economy, it's rare to find a poly tarp still made in the U.S. We're an exception in the market, and that sets our product apart. We use the best fabric we can find, then cut, heat seal, sew, grommet, and ship everything from our Indiana and Philadelphia locations. When possible, we source our components from U.S. suppliers. The result is a tarp you won’t need to replace anytime soon, and one you can feel good about buying.

What is a leak diverter tarp?

A leak diverter tarp, also called a leak catcher or drain tarp, is a tarp hung below an active leak to catch water and channel it away from floors, equipment, and inventory. Ours pitches toward a centered 3/4-inch hose connection, so captured water drains to a floor drain or bucket instead of pooling overhead. It is a reusable alternative to buckets and absorbent socks while a leak is repaired.

How does the center drain and hose connection work?

The diverter is sewn square and pitched toward the middle, where a 3/4-inch spout accepts a standard hose. Water collected by the tarp runs to that drain fitting and flows through the hose to a drain, barrel, or bucket positioned out of the way. Because water never pools on the fabric, the leak catcher can run unattended while you keep operating.

Can a leak diverter catch ceiling and pipe leaks, or only roof leaks?

Both. It is most often used as a roof leak diverter during storm leaks, but the leak catcher also works above drop ceilings as a ceiling leak diverter and under failing pipes, valves, or HVAC condensation lines as a drip diverter. Anywhere water enters from above, it can be hung from its grommets to catch and drain the leak.

What size leak diverter do I need?

Choose a size larger than the leak area so the tarp can pitch toward the center drain. For a single drip, a small leak diverter such as 3' x 3' or 5' x 5' is usually enough, while a wider section of compromised roof may call for 10' x 10' or larger. We stock ten sizes from 3' x 3' up to 20' x 20'.
