Industrial-Strength Vinyl-Coated Polyester

All-Weather Protection

From coastal storms to desert sun, these vinyl tarps stay in the fight. The PVC coating blocks water, shrugs off abrasions, and delivers up to five times the UV defense of standard vinyl. They also resist rot, cracking, and damage from common oils and acids, keeping their strength season after season.

Built for Heavy Workloads

A dense polyester core gives each tarp high tear resistance, while heat-welded seams and double-stitched hems keep edges from fraying under tension. The smooth vinyl surface wipes clean, sheds dirt, and stays flexible in cold weather—ideal for job-site covers, truck load tie-downs, or backyard projects that need long-term, watertight protection.

Marketing Humphrys Tarps in the 1940s

Humphrys has been making vinyl tarps for over 50 years, ever since pvc coated polyester tarps began to replace canvas as the preferred material for most applications. Before that, we spent a good century manufacturing canvas tarps for everything from conestoga wagon covers, to tents, to horse blankets, to drop cloths. As materials changed, we adapted, while keeping the same focus on quality and durability that has guided us since 1874.

The ad to the right was published in the late 1940s - quality products don't go out of style.

All-American Strength

For years, we have turned premium PVC-coated polyester into the strongest tarps made in America. In our Indiana shop, each tarp is cut, heat-welded, double-stitched, fitted with grommets, and inspected by hand. Built for everything from construction jobs to home projects, these tarps offer dependable strength and reliability, proudly made in the USA from start to finish.

Standard Features

Flat Hem on an 18 oz Vinyl TarpDouble-Thick Hems: Our vinyl tarps are made with standard 2-ply hems, with the fabric folded back on itself and heat sealed into a single, very robust edge.
Grommet at the side of a vinyl tarpBlack Brass Grommets: Every 2 feet we put a 1/2" inner diameter brass grommet. These grommets are black pvd-coated, and will not corrode or rust over the lifespan of the tarp.

Options for Made-to-Order Tarps:

Grommets with Reinforced Patches: Built for high-tension applications like wind protection, this hem features an extra layer of vinyl fabric underneath each grommet. The extra fabric thickness provides significant resistance against grommet pull-out and other tension-related failures.

D-Rings with Reinforced Patches: Easy and robust attachment points for tie-downs. Many find D-rings easier and more convenient than grommets, particularly when securing a tarp with rope. The 1 and 1/8" steel-plated zinc D-rings are secured with extremely robust webbing, and will hold up to very tough use.

Rope in Hem: Adding a 3/16th inch diameter rope to the hem of a tarp has long been a popular way to strengthen the hem of a tarp. This rope absorbs the stresses that weight, wind, and tension put on the hem, protecting the fabric and increasing load capacity.
