Dump Truck Tarp Made to Endure

Engineered for commercial trucking operations hauling asphalt, gravel, demolition debris, and construction materials, our dump truck tarps fit standard front-to-back roller configurations on tri-axle dumps, end dumps, and transfer trailers. Whether you're replacing a worn-out dump truck cover or outfitting a new dump trailer, every Humphrys tarp is built to handle years of daily operation without failure.

Each dump truck cover is cut from wide-width fabric, eliminating the center seam that causes most tarp failures under heavy loads. Heat-sealed 3-ply hems create a continuous bonded edge that resists separation under tension far better than stitched construction. The roller bar pocket features double-stitching with PVC reinforcement — the attachment point that takes the most abuse on every haul.

Proper Sizing for Load Securement

Measure Tarp Length: Add at least 2 feet to the dump tarp body length. This ensures complete load coverage during transit and when tilted for unloading.

Measure Tarp Width: Subtract 4 inches from the width of your roller bar. Standard widths are 7' or 7'6".

Sizing Example:

- Dump body: 16 feet long

- Roller Bar: 88 inches wide

- Correct size: The tarp should be 18 feet long and 84 inches wide (7’ x 18’).

Making Truck Covers Through the Ages

We got our start in 1874 by making the dump truck covers of the 19th century: conestoga wagon covers. As times have changed, our products have as well. The quality of our work has not, though, which is why we're still around. When wagons were replaced by trucks, we started covering them instead. We have been ever since.

Still Crafted in America

Just as our product mix has kept up with the changing times, our manufacturing technology has also. What hasn't changed, though, is that all our products are handmade in Indiana. High-quality fabric is cut, sewn, grommeted, heat-sealed, and packaged here in the US, resulting in a product that we are proud to stand behind.

Why Trucking Companies Choose Humphrys Dump Truck Tarps

When a dump truck tarp fails mid-haul, it means more than lost time. It means potential DOT fines, debris on the roadway, and a truck sitting idle while you scramble for a replacement. That's why fleet managers and owner-operators across the country choose Humphrys for dump truck tarp replacement.

Our 18 oz. Vinyl withstands hot asphalt hauling temperatures without degrading. Mesh options — Iron Mesh, 11-11 Mesh, and Multi-Mesh HD — prevent cargo blowout while allowing proper drainage. Every tarp is cut from wide-width fabric to eliminate weak center seams, and heat-sealed edges outperform stitched hems under constant flexing and UV exposure.

We stock dump truck tarps in standard sizes to fit most tri-axle dumps, end dumps, and transfer trailers. Available in 7' and 7'6" widths with lengths from 10' to 36', these standard sizes ship within 1–2 days from our Indiana facility. Need a custom size or a non-standard mounting configuration? Request a free quote and we'll build it to your specifications in 2–3 weeks.

Keeping Your Dump Truck Tarp in Service

A properly maintained dump truck tarp lasts significantly longer than one that's neglected between hauls. After each use, clear all debris from the tarp surface before retracting it onto the roller bar — sand, gravel fragments, and asphalt residue trapped in folds accelerate wear at its crease points. For vinyl dump truck covers, periodic cleaning with mild soap and water removes grime that can degrade the PVC coating over time. Our vinyl tarp cleaning guide covers the full process.

Inspect grommets and the roller bar pocket at least monthly. These are the highest-stress points on any dump truck tarp system, and catching a loose grommet or fraying pocket early prevents a mid-haul failure. If your vinyl cover sustains a small tear or puncture, our vinyl patch kits provide a fast, durable repair that extends the tarp's working life.

When it's time for a full replacement, secure the old tarp with natural rubber tarp straps during removal to prevent it from shifting while you work.

Heat-Sealed Edges

The edges of our dump truck tarps are heat-sealed for a stronger and more durable bond than traditional stitching. The welded seam fuses layers of fabric together with a reinforcing layer in between, forming a continuous 3-ply edge that resists separation under tension and abrasion.

In demanding applications like the retractable bed cover on dump trucks where tarps face constant flexing, friction, and harsh conditions, heat-sealed edges simply hold up longer.

Double-stitched reinforced pocket hem

Double-Stitched Pocket

Stitching is required to form the pocket around the retractable bar on dump truck bed cover systems.  To offset the relative weakness of stitching when compared to heat-sealing, we use double stitching with PVC reinforcement.

The result is a pocket built to last as long as the rest of the tarp.  It can handle the tension and friction of daily use, and deliver the long-term durability you would expect from a Humphrys product.

What dump truck tarp material should I choose?

Choose 18 oz. vinyl for asphalt hauling and loads requiring waterproof protection. Choose mesh (Iron Mesh, 11-11 Mesh, or Multi Mesh HD) for construction debris, gravel, sand, and dry bulk materials where drainage is needed. Iron Mesh offers the highest tear resistance for demolition work.

What's the difference between vinyl and mesh dump truck tarps?

Solid 18 oz. Vinyl provides complete coverage — waterproof, windproof, and fully enclosed. Choose vinyl when hauling asphalt, wet material, or anything that needs total containment. Mesh options (Iron Mesh, 11-11 Mesh, Multi-Mesh HD) allow airflow and drainage while keeping loose cargo contained. Mesh is the better choice for dry aggregate, gravel, sand, and demolition debris, especially in warm climates where moisture buildup under a solid cover is a concern.

What size dump truck tarp do I need?

Measure your dump body length and add at least 2 feet for proper coverage during transit and unloading. For width, subtract 4 inches from your roller bar measurement. Standard widths are 7' and 7'6". If you're unsure, call us at 800-457-4406 with your truck's make, model, and bed dimensions, and we'll help you find the right size.

Can I get a custom size dump truck tarp?

Yes. While we stock standard sizes in 7' and 7'6" widths from 10' to 36' long, we manufacture custom dump truck tarps to any dimension you need. Custom orders are built at our Indiana facility and typically ship within 2–3 weeks. Request a free quote or call 800-457-4406 to get started.

Will these tarps fit my dump truck tarp system?

Our tarps are designed with a standard roller bar pocket that fits most front-to-back dump truck tarp systems, including Roll-Rite, Shur-Co, Aero, and manual crank systems. The pocket features double stitching with PVC reinforcement for long-term compatibility. Please reach out to us at 800-457-4406 to confirm fit for your specific system.

Are these tarps DOT-compliant?

Yes. Our dump truck tarps are designed to meet DOT load securement requirements, providing complete load coverage with tear-resistant materials and secure attachment points. Proper sizing (adding 2 feet to dump body length) ensures full coverage during transit and when the bed is tilted for unloading.

Do you make tarps for dump trailers and end dumps?

Yes. Our dump truck tarps fit standard front-to-back roller configurations on tri-axle dumps, end dumps, and transfer trailers. The same material options and sizing approach apply — measure your trailer's bed length and roller bar width, and select the material that matches your hauling conditions.

How long does a Humphrys dump truck tarp last?

Lifespan depends on material choice, hauling frequency, and the type of cargo. Our 18 oz. vinyl dump truck covers typically last several years under daily commercial use — significantly longer than imported alternatives made from thinner material. Mesh options like Iron Mesh and 11-11 Mesh are equally durable for their intended applications. Proper maintenance, including regular debris removal and periodic inspection of grommets and the roller pocket, extends service life further.
