American Manufacturing Since 1874

Flame Resistant Tarps, Rated for Heat and Sparks

FR poly, vinyl, and canvas tarps built for welding, grinding, and hot-work areas. Fire-rated where standard tarps would fail, and made in the USA since 1874.

A flame resistant tarp is a heavy duty cover built or treated so it resists ignition and self-extinguishes instead of feeding a flame, which is exactly what you want anywhere sparks, slag, or radiant heat can reach a cover. These go by several names, fire resistant, flame resistant, fire retardant, and FR, and while some sellers say fireproof, no tarp is truly fireproof: the accurate term is fire or flame resistant. Humphrys builds its fire resistant line in the same American facilities as the rest of our catalog, in three core materials, polyethylene, vinyl, and canvas, each engineered to slow flame spread and self-extinguish. They are made for welding bays, grinding and cutting stations, and job sites where a standard tarp would be a fire hazard. Every FR tarp comes in standard sizes you can order online, or custom dimensions built to your exact application.

Choosing Your FR Material: Poly, Vinyl, or Canvas

All three of our core materials come in a fire resistant version, and the right one depends on how much abuse the cover takes and how close it sits to the heat. Flame resistant polyethylene is the lightweight, water-shedding option for general-purpose fire-rated covering, temporary enclosures, and spark containment where you need protection without a lot of weight. Our flame resistant polyethylene tarp carries the same true 20 mil build as our standard poly. Flame resistant vinyl is the heavy hitter: waterproof, abrasion resistant, and built for industrial duty, welding screens, and covers that get repositioned every day. See specs on our flame resistant vinyl tarp. Flame resistant canvas is breathable and water-resistant, which is why it is the traditional choice for welding areas, draping over equipment, and catching spatter and slag without trapping moisture. Our flame resistant canvas tarp is the classic welding-cover material. Not sure which fits? Direct spatter and slag point to canvas or vinyl; general spark protection points to poly.

Fire Protection for Welding and Hot Work

Welding, cutting, grinding, and torch work throw sparks and molten slag that will burn through an untreated tarp, so any cover in a hot-work area needs a fire rating. Our flame resistant canvas is the traditional welding tarp material, breathable and heavy enough to take repeated spatter, while flame resistant vinyl works well for welding screens and curtains that separate a bay from the rest of the shop. If you are weighing fire ratings, temperature limits, and certifications, or deciding between a welding tarp, a welding blanket, and a fire blanket for hot work, our welding tarps and fire retardant covers guide walks through all of it. Once you know what you need, spec it in flame resistant canvas or vinyl, in a standard size or built to your exact bay.

Where Fire-Rated Covers Are Required

Hot work is not the only place a fire rating matters. Fire resistant tarps and covers show up across industrial and commercial sites: protecting stored equipment and materials near heat sources, partitioning areas where sparks travel, shielding machinery during maintenance, and serving as containment or enclosure covers where an ordinary tarp would add fuel to a fire. In many facilities, fire codes, insurers, and local fire marshals require fire-rated materials in specific zones, which is why operations and safety teams spec FR covers instead of standard ones. Whether you are outfitting a plant, a warehouse, or a job site, the same three fire resistant materials, poly, vinyl, and canvas, cover the range from light-duty spark protection to heavy industrial use.

Standard Sizes or Custom Built to Order

Many of our flame resistant tarps come in standard sizes you can order online, so if a stock dimension fits your bay or your load, checkout takes a couple of clicks. When an off-the-shelf size will not work, we fabricate FR covers to your exact measurements: oversized enclosures, welding screens sized to a specific station, reinforced corners, and grommet placement that matches your mounting. Send us the dimensions and how the cover will be used, and we will quote one made to fit. If you do not need a fire rating and you are shopping by material for a general-purpose heavy duty tarp, our USA made tarps line is the better starting point. And if your job is a specific application such as hauling, roofing, or leak containment rather than fire protection, our specialty tarps line is built for those.
